The Prairie's Southern Margin Storm Track: a Temporal Perspective
The two time series above illustrate the temporal variations in the number of storms that track along the prairie's southern margin . Plotted are the average monthly (top) and average yearly (bottom) scores on the first vector of a PCA anlaysis of the storm frequencies of the prairie peninsula. Scores in the blue areas indicate higher than the average number storms along the track and scores plotted in the yellow area fewer than the average number of storms along the track. Storms are most common along this track in winter and were most common in the early years of this century and least common in the 1970s.
